About EcoSchools
A Message from Mrs. Camillone and the EcoSchools Team:
Ontario EcoSchools is a wonderful program; it’s a program for positive change. Through Ontario EcoSchools, any school can evaluate their environmental behaviours and practices and based on these results, target areas for improvement. After initial assessment is complete, a school creates and implements an Action Plan. Over three months, both staff and students work towards meeting the expectations of this plan, and in the process, become more environmentally conscious. New data is collected three months after plan implementation and the hope is that these results will reflect a positive change in behviour, thus leading to certification.
At St. Mike’s, we firmly believe in the value of the Ontario EcoSchools program. Our planet is a gift from God, and we are stewards or caretakers of this gift. It is therefore our duty to protect our planet. Acting in a socially just way towards our environment ensures that our planet will be safe and fruitful for all people, in all parts of the world, and for future generations. It also ensures that we monitor our consumption of the earth’s resources thereby allowing for a more fair distribution of all its wealth.
We ask for your support as we continue our journey towards becoming an EcoSchool!! Please remind your child to support the Ontario EcoSchools program, and particularly on Wednesdays, to bring their lunch in reusable containers, thus minimizing waste.
